🏮 Liora, The Lantern-Bearer

The Prismveil Gnomes have gathered for their first portrait sitting, and this week we are meeting them one by one. Today the glow belongs to Liora, The Lantern-Bearer, who insists shadows are never as large as they pretend to be.

It is hard to feel lost when Liora is nearby. She swings her lantern as she walks, the copper gears clicking in time with her footsteps. When the light flickers, she leans down and gives the side of the glass a quick tap. “Behave,” she mutters with a grin, as if the lantern itself is in on her joke. The flame steadies, and she chuckles before skipping forward, scattering fireflies in her wake.

The others say her glow has a way of falling exactly where it is needed most. Not because she charts the path in advance, but because she notices what others overlook: the root that could trip someone, the trail hidden under leaves, the worry tucked behind a friend’s silence.

Liora does not treat it as destiny. “It’s just light,” she says, “and it shines better when someone laughs with it.” So she tells stories that make the owls blink twice and the trees creak as if they are holding back a chuckle. When the forest feels heavy, she laughs first, and somehow the weight eases for everyone.

Some wonder if her lantern might someday shine on things long forgotten… but Liora only laughs and swings it higher.

And tomorrow, another gnome will step into the light, one whose roots hold fast through every change of season.
